about

This is an album of improvisation instrumental music produced by Mark Temple who also played drums. Each track is a snippet of a larger performance piece that was only ever played once. All tracks were recorded without overdub or rehearsal although various edits were made during post-production. In these recordings Mike Anderson and Mike Bain were present at three of the four recording sessions. Other guest musicians include Wayne Connelly, Matthew de la Hunty, Luke Dearnley, Steve Kilbey, Mark O’Connor, Paul Scott, Brad Stafford and Peter Veliks.

The doppler line-up changes at every recording session (apart from that annoying guy on drums!) to keep the music fresh. This may be considered to be an indulgence since I got to plat drums with many musicians that I have admired in the past. However, it's an organic approach to making music outside of the constraint of the regular bands peeps play in. It's not complicated jazz or tightly rehearsed rock, it’s just how we sounded on the night.

This is music filled with chance occurrence atop various rhythmic grooves. When mixing and producing these tracks, I hear performances that surprise me - as if hearing the music for the first time. It’s played in a stream of consciousness and listened to with the benefit of hindsight.
